Father Tom Simisky, S.J., is a Jesuit priest originally from Worcester, Massachusetts. His life includes many journeys marked by teaching, leadership, and a global perspective. After graduating from Assumption University, he served as an artillery officer in the Marine Corps in the Persian Gulf and Western Pacific, attaining the rank of Captain. He then transitioned into a job as a district sales manager for a manufacturer of overhead cranes before returning to school and earning a master’s degree in economics from Boston College. BC is where he first met Jesuits and experienced Ignatian spirituality. Inspired by the Jesuits there and awakened to a potential vocation in religious life, he taught Spanish and coached football at Catholic Memorial in Boston while discerning to enter the Society of Jesus.

Since entering the Jesuits in 2003, Fr. Simisky has lived in Jamaica, Bolivia, Chile, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan. He received a degree in philosophy from the Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Chile, as well as master’s degrees in divinity and theology from Boston College. He also worked as a campus minister at Boston College High School and taught theology at Cheverus High School in Maine. He was ordained a priest in 2014 and missioned to Fairfield Prep in Connecticut, where he served as president until 2020. In addition to being here at St. Raphael during the summer of 2021, he also served at St. Charles Borromeo in Bridgeport, CT and Holy Trinity Parish in Washington, DC. Most recently, he was Executive Director of Tomsk Catholic School, the only Catholic secondary school in Russia. His time there was cut short by events surrounding the war in Ukraine.

Fr. Tom is thrilled to return St. Raphael Catholic Church and School, saying, “I am honored to serve the St. Raphael community and especially grateful to Fr. Phil Hurley, S.J. for his constant support and mentoring. As many of you know, I was abruptly forced to leave Russia recently, having been brought in and questioned on Good Friday. While confused and disheartened at the time, I trusted that Christ, having led me there, would again bring me to where I might be of some help to His Church. What a wonderful surprise to find myself with you in Raleigh! All things in God’s time.”
