Dear parishioners, 

Great news! Fr. Steve Planning, SJ, who you may have met in June,  will begin his ministry as a Parochial Vicar at our parish on August 15. 

Fr. Steve celebrates 35 years as a Jesuit this year. He was born in Milwaukee where he lived until the age of eleven when his family relocated to Alexandria, VA. After graduating from De Sales University, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1988. During his Jesuit formation years, Fr. Steve earned a master's in philosophy from Fordham University in New York, a master's in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and master's in educational administration from Loyola University, Chicago. He also taught high school in Santiago, Chile where he became fluent in Spanish.  

Father Steve has spent the majority of his Jesuit career working in high school ministry. He served as the assistant principal of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, in Chicago, IL, the founding president of Arrupe Jesuit High School in Denver, CO, and the president of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC. Most recently, Fr. Steve was assigned to run the Jesuit residence at Georgetown University, a job that allowed him the freedom to care for his mother in the last 18 months of her life.

A message from Fr. Steve

Dear Saint Raphael parishioners, 

While I have helped out in many parishes on Sundays during my years in high schools, I have never had the experience of working full-time in a vibrant parish such as Saint Raphael. I look forward to getting to know the parish community, the school, and all of the activities associated with parish life. I feel extremely blessed to be coming to Saint Raphael at this time in my life.

¡Una gran noticia! El Padre Steve Planning, SJ, a quién posiblemente vieron en junio, comenzará su ministerio como vicario parroquial en nuestra parroquia el 15 de agosto.

El Padre Steve celebra 35 años como Jesuita este año. El nació en Milwaukee donde vivió hasta los once años cuando su familia se mudó a Alexandria, Virginia. Después de graduarse de la Universidad De Sales, ingresó a la Compañía de Jesús en 1988. Durante sus años de formación jesuita, el Padre Steve obtuvo una maestría en filosofía de la Universidad de Fordham en Nueva York, una maestría en teología de la Escuela Jesuita de Teología en Berkeley y una maestría en administración educativa de la Universidad de Loyola, Chicago. También enseñó en la escuela secundaria en Santiago, Chile, donde aprendió a hablar el idioma español con fluidez.

El Padre Steve ha pasado la mayor parte de su labor como jesuita trabajando en el ministerio de la escuela secundaria. Se ha desempeñado como subdirector de Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, en Chicago, Illinois, presidente fundador de Arrupe Jesuit High School en Denver, Colorado, y presidente de Gonzaga College High School en Washington, DC. Más recientemente, el Padre Steve fue asignado para administrar la residencia jesuita en la Universidad de Georgetown, un trabajo que le permitió cuidar a su madre durante los últimos 18 meses de su vida.

Queridos feligreses de San Rafael, 

Si bien he servido en muchas parroquias los domingos durante mis años en la escuela secundaria, nunca tuve la experiencia de servir de tiempo completo en una parroquia vibrante como San Rafael. Espero poder conocer la comunidad parroquial, la escuela y todas las actividades asociadas con la vida parroquial. Me siento extremadamente bendecido de venir a San Rafael en este momento de mi vida.
