Dear St Raphael Parishioners,

My name is Brug Jung, and I have been serving as the Chair for your St Raphael Pastoral Council. This past year has been filled with enthusiasm, hard work, new beginnings and joyous reunions as we worked with our staff and volunteers to fully re-open and re-connect our parish community following the pandemic.  The Council’s working year ended this June 30, and now is a good time to report on our progress. 
 

A fall Leadership Retreat enabled ministry staff leaders, Pastoral Council members and Finance Council members to begin to identify parish challenges and opportunities, as well as become better acquainted with Father Tom as he began his ministry at St Raphael.  Throughout the year, Council members supported many parish programs by serving as active volunteers in various ministries.  You might have also chatted with Council members in the Atrium following weekend masses so we could have opportunities to connect with you.  As Father brought new staff members on board, Council members met many of these folks who now develop program  initiatives, care for our physical campus and continue to bring us forward together in our Faith.

 
By the spring of this year, your Council was able to present a parish-wide survey to all parishioners.  We are in the process of reviewing the findings of this survey, and look forward to supporting the staff as they begin responding to your input with new programs as well as further development of current initiatives.  Stay tuned throughout the new year as you see the results of your survey in action.  When you see Council members—at church, school or in the community—please share your thoughts on our progress so we keep moving forward together.
 
Our 12-member Council spent time this year becoming acquainted with new members and planning for future Council leadership.  This fall, new members will join your Pastoral Council and Father Tom as he leads our parish into the future.  These new folks will join current members Mike Motsinger, Kristine Neuman, Pat Abel, Kirk Nielsen, Shirley George, Frank Castillo, Xochitl Martinez and Matt Kersey.  If you would like to learn more about serving on your Council, please contact one of these folks who will gladly answer your questions.  You can find their contact information at www.saintraphael.org/pastoral-council.

I’ll close this report with a big thank you to the dedicated members who have finished their Council ministry:  Manuel Colunga, Mike Shinners and Council volunteer secretary, Yvette Medina. These wonderful parishioners shared their time and talent in service to St Raphael community, and deserve our gratitude and prayers of thanks.  I have also completed my service on your Council and will be supporting my parish just like most of you:  through volunteer ministries at St Raphael.  It has been an honor and privilege to work with the many Grace-filled parishioners at St Raphael.  Thank you for letting us serve.

Estimados feligreses de San Rafael,
 
Mi nombre es Brug Jung, y he estado sirviendo como Presidenta del Consejo Pastoral de San Rafael. Los últimos doce meses estuvieron llenos de entusiasmo, trabajo arduo, nuevos comienzos, y reuniones animadas mientras trabajamos junto con el personal y voluntarios de nuestra parroquia para reabrirla completamente y volver a conectar nuestra comunidad después de la pandemia. El último año de trabajo del Consejo terminó este 30 de junio y aprovecho la oportunidad para informarles sobre nuestro progreso.
 
Un Retiro de Liderazgo en el otoño pasado permitió al personal parroquial y a los miembros de los Consejos Pastoral y de Finanzas a identificar los desafíos y oportunidades de la parroquia, así como conocer mejor al Padre Tomas quien comenzaba su ministerio en San Rafael. Durante todos estos meses, el Consejo apoyó muchos programas parroquiales sirviendo activamente en varios ministerios. Quizás usted conversó con alguno de los consejeros en el atrio después de las misas del fin de semana. A medida que el Padre incorporó nuevos miembros al personal parroquial, los miembros del Consejo conocieron a muchas de estas personas que ahora desarrollan iniciativas de programas, cuidan nuestro campus y continúan impulsándonos juntos en nuestra Fe.
 
Para la primavera de este año, el Consejo implementó una encuesta parroquial a todos los feligreses. Estamos revisando los resultados de esta encuesta y esperamos apoyar al personal parroquial a medida que comiencen a responder a sus comentarios con nuevos programas o con un mayor desarrollo de las iniciativas actuales. Estén atentos durante los meses que vienen a medida que vean los resultados de la encuesta en acción. Cuando vea a los miembros del consejo, en la iglesia, la escuela o en la comunidad, comparta sus pensamientos sobre nuestro progreso para que sigamos avanzando juntos.
 
Nuestro Consejo de 12 miembros dedicó tiempo este año a familiarizarse con los nuevos miembros y planificar el futuro liderazgo del Consejo. Este otoño que viene, nuevos miembros se unirán al Consejo de Pastoral para ayudar al Padre Tom mientras dirige nuestra parroquia hacia el futuro.
