2020 is Matthew’s first year on the Parish Council, and he currently is a member of our Metrics (measures of success) sub-committee.
Matthew Higgins and his wife Lisa have been members of St. Raphael since returning to NC from sunny San Diego, CA in 2015. Matthew and Lisa have two daughters, and two sons - in that order. Both girls are now graduates of the Preschool, which is what initially led their family to becoming members of our parish. Lisa is a Physician Assistant at Rex Hospital, is an active member of the Catholic Medical Association, and actively assists in leading the parish Respect Life Committee.
Matthew is a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 9880, and currently serves as the Two-Year Trustee after leading the Council as Grand Knight in 2018. He also previously served the parish as a cantor, choir member, and volunteer for Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
Matthew is the Manager of Performance Services at Duke Regional Hospital, and serves as an internal consultant for data analytics and performance improvement. He and his team oversee the Balanced Scorecard (a collection of measures that drive performance to meet strategic objectives), labor and productivity (people, positions, and benchmarking), as well as a wide array of clinical and financial performance reporting for the hospital and health system’s executive teams.
He previously worked for the Naval Air Systems Command as an Aerospace Engineer designing structural repairs and modifications for naval aircraft. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from NC State University, and a Master of Science in Business Administration and Management from Boston University.
In his free time, Matthew enjoys hiking, biking, playing outside with his children, participating in Y-Guides activities, eating tacos, and watching NFL football.
