Our parish’s Jesuit Ignatian Spirituality and inclusiveness are what drew Matt and his wife to St. Raphael a year and a half ago. As a first term St. Raphael Pastoral Council member, he’s excited to learn more about our community and their dreams.
While this is Matt’s first term on the Pastoral Council at St. Raphael, he’s no stranger to the role or to serving his community. A long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes, Matt served as their Pastoral Council Chair for 4 years, led a significant building campaign and co-led Disciples in Mission. Additionally, he’s a Knight of Columbus and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, hospital ministry, and perpetual Adoration, and has served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Communion.
Matt received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from The College of the Holy Cross, a Jesuit college in Worcester, MA and a PhD in Chemistry from Duke University. His professional experience includes working for 28 years in the pharmaceutical industry developing new medicines. During his corporate career, he found a love for helping individuals and teams work better together. This calling led him to become a credentialed professional coach. He’s run his own business for the past 7 years supporting technical people to become great leaders.
In his free time, Matt enjoys biking and hiking, and he’s completed part of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. He and, Marianne, his wife of 37 years, also enjoy traveling and are looking forward to traveling more now that COVID restrictions are relaxing. They have two daughters who are both married and each have a child. And, they’re expecting a third grandchild in December!
One thing that you might be surprised to learn about Matt is that he was a varsity fencer in college. For the fencing fans out there – he fenced Foil.
