Who is the Recipient of This Sacrament?

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick has as its purpose the conferral of a special grace on the Christian experiencing the difficulties inherent in the conditions of serious illness or old age. The sacrament is not only for those who are at the point of death. As soon as anyone of the faithful begins to feel a threat due to serious sickness or old age, this can be a fitting time for the person to receive the sacrament. If a sick person who received this anointing recovers health, the person can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again. If during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. It is fitting to receive the anointing just prior to a serious operation. The same holds for the elderly whose frailty might become more pronounced. The sacrament may be requested from any of the priests, from Gerry Madey at 919.865.5740 or gerry@madeys.com or from Anna Vieira at 919,865.5729 or avieira@saintraphael.org
